This group is a safe place for bereaved grandparents to share their stories and find a sense of shared empathy and renewed strength.
The relationship between a grandparent and a grandchild is typically a special bond. When a grandchild dies, the grief associated with the loss is often intense and painful. It is not in the ordinary timeline of events for a grandparent to outlive the lifespan of one’s grandchild. The bereaved grandparents may feel helpless, hopeless, and confused. One will most likely be experiencing a double loss - the deep grief for the loss of one’s grandchild and for their adult child who is co-currently grieving the loss of their child. The grandparent might feel unable to comfort their own child.
